Hi kbrinson11,
this issue may arise if you have some anti-virus applications installed. They detect Themida (which we use to protect the build) and block an access to the part of the file. This doesn't allow Windows see the whole archive and extract files, so you see this error.
One of the solutions is to deactivate your security program for a while before installation (on which we have no right to insist).

This didn't solve the issue, it still says I must "the setup file is corrupt, please obtain a new copy of the program". I have windows 8.1, using foxfire, and uninstalled Kaspersky security. This same cpu downloading Giveaways two weeks ago and I don't know of any changes to the system.

The solution for Kaspersky is to boot in Safe Mode, install the program, and then reboot normally when the installation completes. Kaspersky appears to have developed a problem on some computers where it's no longer sufficient to either grant an exclusion or disable the program, you have to boot in Safe Mode so the problem Kaspersky components don't run.
If you install a lot of the GOTD programs then you might consider switching security programs.

Having suffered the same problems for at least three months I tried to download from "Shareware for Sale" (or similar?) site but with the same results - notification that the downloaded files were corrupt. Today, I was trying to install Leawo BluRay Player and went through the usual procedures without success then, about one hour later, I got an email from "Shareware for Sale" just telling me that my download was ready and click the link to get it. This I did and the program installed without hesitation nor deviation - even though Kaspersky was running a virus check, which I didn't want to stop.
I compared the two downloaded files, expecting that there would be some difference. They were both exactly the same name and size! However, when I went back to the file I downloaded via GOTD this morning, I found that it was, indeed, a zip file but the name was LeawoBlurayCreator54.Posted 10 years ago # -

Only GOTD uses the GOTD wrapper that's under discussion -- sites like SOS just have regular downloads that should be identical to what you'd download from the software's main site. Today GOTD offers the Blu-Ray Creator -- SOS has had the Player available for some time now. They're 2 very different apps.
If you think Kaspersky might be causing your problems, one way to tell might be to try the install in Safe Mode, or turn off Kaspersky while in Safe Mode & boot into Windows normally to try the installation, or follow Sakir Avci's suggestion.

Hi I have been a user of Giveawayoftheday for some years. In the last few months I havent been able to download anything successfully. I am ready to give up.
I see that I am a late comer to this forum but I am hoping that someone can give me some advice in plain simple language. i am no computer expert but this is something I would like to have fixed if possible. I am running Kaspersky KIS but when I was trying to figure this out, I was thinking maybe this was a part of the issue and I actually uninstalled it and put AVG on for awhile. I had the same problem of corrupt file etc.
I would really appreciate it if someone can set me straight on this
thank you

Using Google I found that Kaspersky has a tool to completely remove their software. I would suggest maybe performing a disk/partition image backup, downloading the current version of IS along with the removal tool, uninstalling IS, using the tool to get rid of leftovers, & backing up again. Then you could install the latest version & see what happened -- if it didn't work you could optionally make a 3rd backup, & then restore that 2nd backup [where you have no security software installed] & install another brand, if only as a test.
I could be totally wrong, but if Kaspersky worked, then it didn't, & fresh Kaspersky installs in virgin Windows work, it's possible that an update between then and now caused the problem, & neither updating nor uninstalling Kaspersky got rid of it.
Your Windows Update history will let you pinpoint what updates were installed about the time GOTD offers broke, so you can uninstall them. It's not foolproof, but folder dates can show you when software was changed or installed. Renaming or moving program folders while in safe mode should disable whatever's inside those folders. If you rename a dozen folders & the GOTD works, you just have to narrow it down to which folder, which will tell you which app. If it doesn't work, put those back & try the next dozen.
Running msconfig lets you use a hybrid of sorts, part safe mode with your choice of services not running, just like Safe Mode, but with your other software functioning normally.
Several companies have free anti-virus scanners that do not require installation. Some can be used as bootable discs, while others have to be run in Windows. They might pick up something, & if you wanted to try the ones that run in Windows, if you remove IS to update like above, while you have no security software installed, before you update might be a good time, since Kaspersky couldn't interfere.
Another possibility is that Windows itself became damaged. Quite often Microsoft will advise a reinstall. If you have a good backup wiping the disk to install Windows fresh doesn't have to be an all or nothing gamble. Install Windows, Install Kaspersky if you want, then test, update Windows, test again, repeat until you're current. If you get Windows current & everything works, you can restore your backup to another partition or vhd, then run something like windiff to see what's different between the 2 copies of Windows. Once you figure it out, restoring the backup will put everything just like it was, and then you can fix whatever you found.
When deciding whether to do any or all of this stuff, perhaps one thing to bear in mind is that your system's broken. It may or may not effect anything beyond installing GOTDs -- whether you notice it or not doesn't mean everything's well & good. I don't mean to say you should or shouldn't bother, but know that there's some chance that ignoring what seems a minor problem could cause major headaches.

Hi Aspens, have you read the FAQ's thread over in the game discussion sticky section? There may be a fix found in that thread (no promises though). Often, it may be a conflict with other software you are running.
As Mikiem points out, your Windows installation may also be suspect. Personally I re install my windows operating system at least twice a year; partly to get rid of all the junk I've accumulated and also becasue I tend to download most free stuff and inevitably windows is affected in some way.
Immediately fter trying to install something from the giveaway site, open up the event viewer and check the event log to see if there is any error messages posted. Often you can find out what the problem is by looking at this useful windows tool.
To open the Event Viewer click on the Start button, then click on the Control Panel icon (in win 8 you should find the icon on the Start page). Then, click on System and Security - Administrative Tools, and then double-clicking Event Viewer. Alternatively type Eventvwr.msc in the search field.

Thank you for your replies to my request for help.
I have a laptop and a desktop and both have KIS on. I havent been able to get an uncorrupted download on either for quite awhile. In the meanwhile I had a new laptop but the problem continued (I had KIS on)
I decided to download the Kaspersky removal tool, and remove KIS from the laptop.
I put on AVG and what do you know? I downloaded yesterdays give away without a problem.
I have been happy with Kaspersky and all of the family have it on their computers for many years. The only thing is they dont download the games and programs from Giveaway.
I will be removing KIS and looking for another antivirus as I am not prepared to go through this restrictive nonsense.
Can anyone give me any pointers as the another anti virus. I only have the free AVG on at the moment and not sure if that is enough, when you do banking on line etc.
Now I will wait and see what happens when the games come around next weekend.
Your help has been invaluable.
thanks

Great :)

av-test.org has lots of info. I use Bitdefender but I also install most GOTD offers in a VM so I can't say how it reacts with all of them over time. I came across a couple of threads in the fatwallet forums with free AVG licenses for their full version. That post was disappeared, but you could always go there & search.

For making Kaspersky "dont start with windows" follow this way;
Open Kaspersky.Click settings. There is a tool named by "Launch Kaspersky Internet Security at computer startup(recommended)" Make it off. Then if you restart your computer,Kaspersky will not load.
