This player works, but like the DVDFab Player that was featured on GOTD a while back it only plays the movie -- the main thing both players offer is decryption of a retail Blu-Ray disc's DRM... full-fledged players [e.g. PowerDVD] both decrypt the disc & handle Java-based menus, but they're expensive [Cyberlink's site lists PowerDVD 12 Pro for $80], installation is more trouble prone because of the DRM used with the included decryption keys, & longevity is limited, since players have to be updated periodically to handle newer DRM, & companies usually don't update their older version players.
That's a common weakness with all Blu-Ray players: you're gambling that down the road it'll still play the latest discs with the latest DRM; that's not much of an issue with a GOTD, but something to consider if you're paying for it. AnyDVD & DVDFab sell one year licenses, which means basically the app will be able to access their servers for decryption info for 1 year -- Aiseesoft doesn't state any limits -- but there are no guarantees any company will continue to offer &/or provide updates to any player... Cyberlink doesn't update their older players, neither does Nero, & Roxio stopped offering/selling their player entirely.
The Aiseesoft Blu-Ray Player itself isn't bad as long as you're not running XP -- in XP Aiseesoft Blu-Ray apps have what's IMHO a bad habit, always installing an old, hacked driver for Blu-Ray compatibility that may/may not cause problems [thdudf.sys]. Otherwise it's light weight & does what it's supposed to -- it plays the movie on retail Blu-Ray discs with DRM. It'll play video files & the movies on Blu-Ray discs without DRM, but then so will a lot of players, e.g. VLC.
