While trying to download today's program to my older computer (Windows 09), a WinZip window came up telling me that this is an evaluation copy. I tried checking "use evaluation copy", but it then gave me a message about archiving--don't remember exactly whatj. The end result was that I couldn't unzip the file. This happened to me at work, too, but I was able to select "use evaluation copy" and could download the program (need games at work, too--after all there are breaks and lunch hours to fill). What is the problem? Help!

Right click on the zip file and choose "Extract Here.." or some other options available? I use WinRAR so I am not sure what options available for Winzip

I never get that far. I get a File Download box asking if I want to open, save, cancel, more info. I click Open and then it looks like the file is downloading--then I get the box asking about WinZip.
Do I need to find WinZip and uninstall it? I don't have this problem with my Window SP computers at home--although I do at work. Apparently, I am just not savvy enouth to figure this stuff out!

oops, sorry, those are Window XP computers, not SP

Would suggest you Save it first, then unzip.

I tried that, too, but Winzip just keeps wanting me to buy their program. Finally just downloaded a freeware program (from this site with a few good ratings) and finally got it working. Then I tried to uninstall Winzip, but it apparently left a few things behind cause I keep getting weird warnings about missing elements.
ultimately, uninstalled this giveaway and went to a couple other programs that were suggested in comments/forums.
Thank you very much for your assistance...it was nice of you to take your time to try to help me. I sincerely appreciate it!

For older computers that run Win98 and WinME you can use ZipGenius, which is free, to handle your decompression activities. This program supports .zip and even .rar compressions.

I have used WinZip for years, never had this problem, "not saying you don't" as it's obvious you do. WinZip, when using evaluation version, switches the "use evaluation" and "buy now" buttons so many accidentally click on buy now and don't even know it. I helped beta test for the last version so got it free but the eval remains the same. If you are getting an archive message, it's probably asking you to view or extract the archives and you are probably not in Wizard mode. You need to open Winzip, when closing, choose wizard mode, or go to options to do so. What you can do which is easiest, is right click the file, choose "open with WinZip" and you will be asked to unzip or unzip and install, with the files downloaded from here, I suggest just unzipping and if I remember it will create a folder in the MyDocuments folder called unzipped, you can then go in to view them. You will then find your files , setups, etc...Winzip is actually VERY easy to use, once you get to know it but can be confusing for a lot of people for sure. It is very stable though which is what I like about it. Fast too. Of course preference is preference but thought this may help you a bit.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, you may have had an older or corrupt install. Uninstalling and re-installing a new copy may help.

Back in the DOS days, I had used PKZIP for DOS. But in the mid 90's, WinZip was the most used zip utility out there. So I registered it and that same key worked up to v9.0 SR-1. V10 and v11 of WinZip uses their own separate registration keys now. I too haven't had any problems using WinZip either. It works great and I still love it. :)
