OK, I know these games are free and from what I researched on this game, there's a big difference between the one we got and the one described elsewhere on the internet. The big difference is this one is untimed with unlimited hints (just slow reloads) where the "original" seemed to be heavily timed with very limited hints.
However, that's not my issue. I did not like the idea that it put it's work files in C:\Users\<username> (for Vista) rather than C:\Users\<username>\Documents or C:\Users\<username>Appdata (either Local or Roaming). I promptly hid the folder it created.
I have just discovered that if that fold is hidden, then even the GAME can't update it. It can find it and knows to start at where I was when I exited the game just before hiding it. It just won't update it. I didn't make it read-only, just set the hidden attribute.
WHY?????
Why does a game have to have a folder visible to the user to be able to update it itself. That hidden attribute does not affect if the file can be written to at all. After all, for most people, AppData IS a hidden folder. I had need of it and got tired of changing my folder attribute so "unhid" it (and ProgramData later).
Does anybody have any explanation of this?
I just don't like clutter and being forced to either allow some clutter or remove the game is a bit strange! After all, I did the same thing to the BigFish game manager (only needed for downloads) at the root level and that has never affected any of my game installs from ther.
It's not that the game doesn't work, it's just that this makes absolutely NO sense!
