Hi!
I saw there is a very good painting program-Art Rage. Its version 2 have free and paid "subversions" :). The paid costs 19.99$. Its interface is simple and it helps me a lot. Please, publish it (the paid version) on the site! That will be very good for many painters-professionals and amateurs.

I AGREE! ArtRage is an exellent program, and it seems perfect for Giveaway of the Day :)!
Posted 17 years ago # -
It's a good program which needs populating. It isn't very expensive, and I think it's perfect :). That's all. I have Photoshop, but I now need a painting program. I searched and found Art Rage. It seems good to be GOTD.
P.S.: Sorry for my bad English-I'm not native English speaker

Yeah!! I hope it is on GOTD! Like you said, it fits in perfect with GOTD!

Thanks for your support -D. I'm new to this forum and it's good I have someone who supports me. Now let's wait for the moderator (or the admin) to say "the last word". :)

the last word.

Hi all,
Bubby: :P - I love people with my own sense of humor! :)
I'll support this software product also. I haven't tried it - but any software that assists with web design is a definite for me, as long as it's a GOOD product.
In fact, I wish they'd have more software that leads to this end.
I'd like to see font (graphics) manipulation software; image mappers; image slicers; guest book programs; a javascript software library; menu creators; button makers; engine submission software (not the crappy free ones that DON'T submit to the main engines!) and more.

Hello everyone!
ArtRage2 is a wonderful program. The real treat however, comes from starting out with the free version, then experiencing the full one! When I got my computer last xmas, the first thing i did was to start searching for freeware painting programs. ArtRage was the second one i found, and the first prog of any kind i felt compelled to buy. IMHO, ArtRage2 beats the pants off of any other "natural media simulation" programs, and would make a great giveaway. I have 24 graphics programs (25 if you count MS Paint!)installed right now. Most are freeware, but some are not, like Project Dogwaffle Pro, Corel Painter Essentials 3, and Photoshop Elements (which is my newest toy!). Each program offers something unique, or excels at something in particular that the other progs don't do as well.....But even with all these choices, time after time, I find myself selecting ArtRage for the job at hand!
If you want a painting program that truly simulates the way real paint does when it is brushed/rolled/knifed onto a canvas, ArtRage is it. Bear in mind that this is not the usual "image manipulation" program. There is no magic wand or section tool, or cloning brush, just the things you would normally have if you sat down to paint in your studio. The paints realistically blend when brushed into each other (when the auto-dry feature is off) and if you're not using a substantial amount of "thinner", an extremely realistic impasto effect results (this is the area in which the prog stands out the most). It supports layers, and tablets, but a mouse will do (this was the reason i purchased a WACOM) The airbrush has an angle control, which helps compensate for those without a tablet. There is a glitter gun, an option for metallic paints, and 18 paper selections, all of which are extremely tweak-able. And then you have the price...$20, which i think is half of what they could have charged!
blackhunter - you may also want to try Deep Paint. you can get it at http://www.download.com/Deep-Paint/3000-2191_4-10398243.html . It used to sell for around $300 USD, but the developer scrapped it in favor of their 3D programs and made it freeware. It can be used as a Photoshop plug-in, but a lot of people have had problems with that, and my advice would be to use it as a stand-alone app. Once you see this prog, you won't be able to belive its freeware! I would put this no.2 on my favorites list, right behind ArtRage.
This is a good request and i hope GOTD agrees, and pursues Ambient Design to participate in the program. Until they do, however, try the free version. Its not save-disabled, just doesn't have a few of the features, like paint tube (looks like a line of toothpaste!).
Hope this helps!

Thanks to all :)
@BuBBy-I like your sense of humor. Can you connect with AmbientDesign? I think they're good people and they will help you.Posted 17 years ago # -
I'm just a humble GOTD foot soldier.
But I'll slide your suggestion under the door - hopefully someone (with real authority) will see it and approach AmbientDesign to see if they want to come & play Giveaway for a day. :)
Posted 17 years ago # -
Thanks a lot BuBBY :)

oops, i forgot one other thing (yeah, i know, someone shut the rodent up)....ArtRage has participated in other giveaways (of a sort). A recent UK graphics mag included the program on their cd, and i believe it is also included with purchase of a tablet, i can't remember for certain which one, but i believe it was a european only deal - which means that Ambient just might go along for the ride since they've done it before!

So. let's wait for GOTD :D
Posted 17 years ago # -
I 5th the idea of offering ArtRage2! (well I am the 5th one to say yea in this thread ...hehe) ;).
Anyway, I'm an aspiring CG artist as well and would love the opportunity to play with the full pay version of ArtRage2. I sure hope GOTD makes them an offer and they accept. I'd also like to see GOTD offer more software related to CG and design as well as CAD. The utilities are great, but I suggest some more variety if they can manage/aquire it. Would be very nice to diversify the offerings a bit more if they're available. I would hope their focus is more than just the utility offerings of late although many of those are great works as well and very much appreciated.
@ hamstergirl:
Thank you very much for your input and description of ArtRage2, as well as the link for Deep Paint. Your description of ArtRag2 is very informative. I had no idea it was such a great program for it's intended purpose. I'm going to dwnld and try the free version as well as Deep Paint. A quick glance of the reviews show it too to be an outstanding app to look at. I'm a member at http://www.Download.com and used to hang out there a lot. A very well organized and trustworthy site indeed! Thanks for the link!
BTW, your welcome for the PTB_(Powers That Be) acronym in the other thread. I didn't overlook your comment of thanks, just didn't see opportunity to post a welcome there at the time and I had other things on my mind at that moment.
Regards...

I did dwnld and play with Deep Paint as suggested by hamstergirl. I must say I'm impressed with it's features and quite extensive selection of textures included with the dwnld. It's a definite keeper! A beginner could use this and produce impressive works with a little practice without a problem, yet it has feature settings that would make a professional custom tweaker happy all the same. Very nicely layed out UI and not too busy with buttons galore as many of these apps tend to be, yet a very powerful tool in knowledgeable hands.
BTW - Deep Paint was not scraped by the developers. They now offer the new version of 'Deep Paint 3D' in their bundled software products.
Thanks for the suggestion hamstergirl! I'd never heard of it until you posted it here. Next I'm going to play with the free version of ArtRage2.

BigThunder1,
Soooo, was it as good for you (sorry, couldn't help that)?..LOL
Anyway, glad to be of help - its always a good sign of progress when replies to your postings go from "what an idiot" to "thank you, that's good to know". And its nice to find another artist here.
In case you haven't seen it, check out the thread here on Twisted Brush, started by Lee - if you don't have it already, try the link Kat provided - http://modernart.wikispaces.com/space/showimage/tbrush35.exe. This program is major fun. And a couple of months ago, i found Painter25, you can get that here - http://jansfreeware.com/. This program in kind of ..... odd is the only word i can come up with!, but its got some unique/fun features of its own - give it a try if you got nothing better to do. And then in GOTD's freeware library, you can find PaintStar which is a real gem - the homepage is here - http://wang.zhenzhou.googlepages.com/. I've plugged this several times here, most recently during the Great Morph/eus Disaster, since it has a nice morphing feature, amongst other things (screen capture, texture brush, etc.). I consider this a real keeper.
I have others, but most of them are on the Usual Suspects list and easy to find, but just let me know if you want them. And thanks for your welcome...not that i'm fragile or anything, but a response like yours can be a real confidence booster to a newbie. I have only recently been posting and it can be a bit intimidating when the community is made up of extremely tech saavy people (I know,I've left myself wide open here). Sure would like to see more painting and drawing apps here at GOTD. Lately it seems like video apps are in the spotlight - maybe some equal time for the artsy folk?
Regards,
Hamstergirl
P.S. - my favorite texture brush in Deep Paint? - zipper! its a great way to "stitch" textures together.Posted 17 years ago # -
P.S.S. - regarding the "scrapped" issue - that was pretty much what I was referring to, just could have phrased it better. I was not aware of their bundling the 3D version though....most likely because my machine....uh,...*ahem*...isn't 3D enabled (ouch). This puppy needs too much work to upgrade - new machine is the answer, and THEN I get to explore the 3D world! (yeah, right, except i gotta wait until I don't feel like a total mark in the computer store before I try buying a new one - LOL!).

Hamstergirl,
Soooo, was it as good for you (sorry, couldn't help that)?..LOL
Ummm... let me catch my breath here for a moment...
I do like Deep Paint. The deeper I get into it, the more I like it! ;)Anyway, glad to be of help - its always a good sign of progress when replies to your postings go from "what an idiot" to "thank you, that's good to know". And its nice to find another artist here.
Agreed! Courtesy and thanks/praise are in short supply these days it seems. As far as the artist title goes, I have to clarify that I'm an aspiring artist. I studied commercial art in vocational school ...ahhhh... some years ago. I've done many other things since that time, but have come full circle to find my love of art regained now with the aid of 'puters. Still acquiring equipment to further my ability/art. Next on the list is a drawing tablet. It all comes down to $$$, which I don't have much of at the moment due to some personal hardships lately. So I'm playing the freebie game for now, which actually has some great competitive offerings to the commercial side of things.
I have to reinstall Twisted Brush after a total system meltdown recently (lost the mobo and hdd). It has some unique brush features, but I haven't played with it for sometime. Another fun paint app to play with though. Another very powerful app in the right hands with a little practice. BTW - The link you provided above came up with an error. Twisted Brushes HmPg can be found here > http://www.pixarra.com/index.html .
I really like PaintStar. Haven't had much time to do a lot with it yet, but I did modify an existing pic I have with ease and the texture selection is pretty good. Zoom feature is fantastic at up to 1k %! Pic is focused/centered at your click point which I found very handy, along with the grip move/pan feature and the ability to toggle between original size and zoom level without having to click all the way down and back up again (unlike some apps I've tried with a zoom feature). I like the layout of this app (windows/panels like G.I.M.P.) . Allows you to have only the panels you need open. Haven't tried the morph feature yet, but looking forward to see what it can do as well. Painter25 I just dwnldd it and will try when I have time. The description of what it can do looks pretty impressive! Looking forward to playing with it.
I have others, but most of them are on the Usual Suspects list and easy to find, but just let me know if you want them. I've tried others on the usual list too such as Paint.NET which is another fantastic tool to have in ones arsenal of image tools. This ones geared more towards retouching, but again in the right hands with a little practice can produce some pretty amazing works from scratch. You should post your list of usuals here for all. I'm sure they will be appreciated by all.
Fragile never entered my mind! Everyone likes recognition, yours truly included! It's such a cold me me world anymore it seems. People just take what they want and ignore the effort one put forth. I recently joined another forum, and within 24 hours every moderator (including the Admin) gave me a personal welcome and a wave along with several other members. First time in a looong time I truly felt welcome on-line rather than just another statistic/body hangin' out (sorry, it's invite only and I haven't earned that right yet. Not an art related forum anyway).
The folks here range from the typical 'dim whits' to highly skill and professional specialist in their field, and experienced business owners. A very diversified crowd I think. I've learned a few things in my short time here sandbagging the threads in the forums and on the main page. Some of the commenter's are very savvy, while sadly there are some porch puppies and infants here as well. But!, this is a place where lots can be learned. Now if we could just get some of the know-nothing know-it-alls to put a cork in it...
And I too would like to see more artist related offerings here at GOTD. Maybe we'll be lucky and have a run of artist related apps such as the video over load as of late. There have been a couple good art/graphic offerings, but not too many just yet. *fingers crossed* :)
P.S. - my favorite texture brush in Deep Paint? - zipper! its a great way to "stitch" textures together.
Nice idea! Can't say I have a favorite yet as I've just begun to play with 'Deep Paint'.

I hear ya! When it comes to stores etc., I don't believe half of what I hear, and I question the other half ...extensively! Then do some more homework on the subject/item(s). Pretty bad when you know more than the person trying to help you, which seems to be the rule rather than the exception these days. Whatta ya expect from cheap payed labor? :o

Come on! When will Art Rage published in GOTD?
Posted 17 years ago # -
Sometime after AmbientDesign (The Art Rage Developers) decide to. It all depends on if or when they make that decision. It's not up to GOTD.
Posted 17 years ago # -
I sure hope AmbientDesign does decide to offer the full unlimited version here at GOTD. I also hope when they do, I don't miss it as I have a couple other offerings I wanted, like Aston Desk. ...rerun rerun please.
Lets hope Ambient Design visits us and treats us to a full unlimited version offering of ArtRage 2.5 .

Hello Everyone,
The newest version, ArtRage 2.5, was released on July 24! So, blackhunter, maybe its a good thing that it hasn't shown up yet here at GOTD - the full version has some very nice new features, as well as a new look and is worth waiting for. The price has gone up as well, from $20 to $25 USD (in other words, it's still ridiculously underpriced!). I love the new ruler. Instead of the usual ruler/guide around the edge of your painting space, you have an actual ruler, secured by a pin, that you can position anywhere on the painting surface you wish and at any angle. You control the length via a handle on either end and can have as many active rulers as you wish. A stencil feature has been added. Like the ruler, they can be resized and repositioned anywhere, and there is no limit on how many you can have active at once. And, you can take any image you have and make a stencil out of it. This feature alone can save you so much work! I am not sure which, if any, of the new features have been incorporated into the free version.
I know that Ambient Design is aware of GOTD - it has been mentioned recently in their forum (by another member who was giving a heads up for that days giveaway, Magnifying Glass Pro 1.4 ). The developers are very active in their own forum so, if you care to, you could always bring the idea to them.......
Cheers,
HamstergirlPosted 17 years ago # -
Version has changed, now ArtRage v2.5.13
I am a registered user, so I don't need it as much as most.
There is a free version.
Good of the developers to offer free.
Price has gone up I guess as the $ is poor against the £.

Does anyone know where to get this free version of Deep Paint? The download.com links do not function any longer. All I can find on the web is the 3D version.
Posted 17 years ago # -
Sure. You can get the free version at:
Posted 17 years ago # -
Hi FreewareFan, I can't get that one to work - already tried it, but my German is not good enough to know what is going on. The normal download does not appear to work and I think it is asking about something like bittorrent but I am not sure.
Posted 17 years ago # -
Humm.. why not run the webpage through a translator, like babelfish? That might help to find out what's going on..
Posted 17 years ago # -
@ TheComputerMan I just had a look through my backups, and went to the link where I downloaded my copy of Deep Paint 2.0, and the link has been removed from Download.com . I'm not sure why that would be, but I'm willing to do something for you, if it doesn't break policy with this forum.
I can upload the file somewhere for you to pick up, if you'd like? Just set up an account somewhere, and let me have the relevant information, and I'll upload a copy for you. Seeing as how it was a completely free program when it was available, I do not think I would be breaking any laws of the land, or rules of this forum.
Posted 17 years ago # -
Thanks FreewareFan, that is very good of you.
Try this for the upload:
http://www.4shared.com/dir/3602059/550e5769/Photo_Upload.html
It can take up to 100mb size.
