I was just looking through the Archives and noticed that some of the games offered in the earliest days - 2006 Oct, Nov, and even Dec - often had less than 10 commenters or voters! And there were some good looking games among them, especially from Robin Games, http://www.robingames.com/games and Alawar Games, http://www.alawar.com . At first, the games were offered on the same website with the other apps, but the site was new and nothing got a lot of exposure.
Perhaps these early games and some of the better apps might be re-offered to get them more exposure and give us a break from DoubleGames on the games site? Please? I have downloaded trials to try of Numericon (Mar 13) from RobinGames and Arxon (Nov 26) from Alwar Games. These are some very pretty and interesting-looking games, and I'm really sorry I missed them..
Just look at the stats and the quality of these early games:
City Magnate (Nov 14, 2006), a very different game, had 10 votes & only 3 (useless) comments
Froggy's Adventures (Nov 12), a platform game with 10 votes and only 5 comments
Beezzle (Nov 11), a match-3 type game?; 6 v, 2 com.
Crystalix (Oct 31), something a little different; 6 v, 8 com.
Hyperspace Invader (Oct 27), vertical scrolling shooter; 9 v, NO comments!
Arxon (Nov 26), a really pretty match-3 with a different twist or 2; 21 v, 6 com. (one useful)
Sea Bounty (Nov 8), a property acquisition game, 9v, 2 com.
I'm even sorry I missed the 3D screensaver, Golden Autumn (Nov 4), which only got 14 votes and one comment. And Winter Night 3D (Nov 30); 90 votes & 32 comments, none of which were, "Darn, another screensaver!"
New Idea: I've seen requests for a hidden object game: Robin Games gave away some of the early games and has some very pretty hidden object games in their current lineup. Could GAOTD ask them to share one with us? I might become hooked on this new game format if I tried one.
NOT GAMES:
If you're more interested in the applications than the games and you've complained about all the new stuff being the same, then look back at these previous early Giveaways and the others from the first 2 or 3 months that got little exposure and suggest a repeat of those that interest you. I put my two favorites at the top.
Load Scout (Nov 16) * very interesting
NeoDownloader (Dec 14) * something different
Cartoonist (Oct 26)
Light Artist (Oct 24)
Frigate3 File Manager (Nov 15)
JetStart Pro (Dec 4)
SmartWhois (Dec 13)
Able MIDI Editor (Dec 17)
