Microsoft to drop Metro term for Windows 8 to avoid lawsuit
Microsoft is set to drop the use of the term Metro to refer to the look and feel of its Window 8 operating system due to the risk of legal threats from a German firm by the same name.
Reports have suggested that internal emails sent within Microsoft and to key developers have urged them to stop using the Metro name and instead simply refer to it as "new user interface", according to The Verge.
Metro is a major Germany retailer, based in Düsseldorf, that is regarded as one of the top five largest in the world alongside the likes of Tesco and Walmart.

The Windows team is "working on a replacement term" according to the memo, "and plans to land on that by the end of this week." Until then, employees have been advised to refer to the Metro style user interface as the "Windows 8 style UI."
