   How to Shutdown and Restart Windows 8

   Wow, so I need to actually write a post about how to shutdown and restart a PC. That’s pretty sad, but required. With Windows 8, turning off your PC or restarting it is not as simple as it used to be. Actually, it takes a lot more effort to restart/shutdown in Windows 8 than it ever did in Windows XP, Vista, or 7. Not really sure why Microsoft made it that way
   right-click on the new shortcut and choose Pin to Start.

   I *think* the point of making shutdown more, I guess I'd say obscure, is MS is trying to emulate Android on your cell phone/tablet -- by default apps are sort of put to sleep rather than stopped, & the same goes for the Android OS itself. Makes sense on a cell when/where you don't want to miss an incoming call, yet want to maximize battery life.

   Win8 on a PC has better memory management as a result, & can have almost instant on if the PC is sleeping rather than off, especially if win8's current state is stored on a SSD. Regular apps start & are shut down normally, like in the past, but Metro stuff just gets suspended [put to sleep]. Android ICS [Ice Cream Sandwich] has a Task Mgr. app to close suspended apps + free up the memory suspended apps are using, which personally I like better -- one method to close Metro apps is described here: http://www.tomsguide.com/us/win8-tips-tricks,review-1778-10.html

   Myself, for win8 shutdown or reboot I find it easier so far to just remember to go to the charm bar & click the power icon at the bottom.
