If/when anyone's interested, if only to see what life's like on the other side of the tracks :) , look for a live CD/DVD ISO on-line. Most of the distro's have them, &/or there are several set up for specific purposes, e.g. working with video or watching TV. In a nutshell they're like the *nix rescue discs from apps by Paragon, EASEUS etc., that you can boot from, & they're of course much more full-featured than those minimal rescue things. Boot to one of those with your PC/laptop, or using a VM host [e.g. VirtualBox], & it's a really painless way to see what that version of *nix is like -- as a bonus many Live discs also have an installation option.
That said, I 1st ran *nix in around 93 or so, have played with it occasionally, off & on since, & on a desktop/laptop never found a reason to keep it, to keep at it. I'm too pragmatic -- too practical... PCs/laptops & everything that goes with them to me are tools. And it's sort of like the desk chair I'm sitting in -- I probably sat in 100 or more before I chose the one that felt best to my butt. I absolutely have no idea if it's the most attractive or ergonomic or any of that -- I bought a chair for my butt to sit in so that's the only thing that concerned me. :) The PC OS I use, the software installed is the same -- if the *nix or Mac OS made for a better tool I'd use one of those, but they don't do what I want/need as well as Windows.
