   I have just downloaded today the Backup and Recovery 11 Compact. The download took all day (11.5 hours) and only completed this evening. Upon clicking on the .exe file immediately following completion of the download, I get the message that "The key cannot be decrypted."

   Since beginning the download 12 hours ago, a subsequent post on the download page states that the if a person gets the "key cannot be decrypted" message, the download file has been updated and the download should be done again.

   I am doing so (i.e., downloading again)--but as the download of this software takes 11.5 hours, it will be Thursday before the download completes and can be registered. The download and registration were stated on the download page as needing to be done today (the 20th). Given that the only problem is due to the GOTD's acknowledged problem with its download file, will it be possible to register the software tomorrow so that the software can be tried?

   I had the same problem. Unfortunately I'd only got as far as applying for the registration code and before I'd installed the program got a phone call to say my son had had a nasty accident while cycling to school. (He's smashed his face badly and broken his thumb) Only remembered about 15 minutes before the end of the giveaway that I'd not completed the installation. got the "The key cannot be decrypted." message. I tried to redownload it this morning with only 15 minutes left to go but the download was too slow. My present connection is 30MB so a 300+MB file shouldn't take more than a few minutes but here we are after the giveaway is over, it's still downloading at 60%. Useless now as the wrapper will prevent me from getting at the executable, Cest la Vie.

   Still it's almost guaranteed that this will be given away again several months from now or next year

   To be honest, I don't know why I bothered as I already have the latest version of Acronis which I think is a better product. Sort of can't help myself downloading some of these giveaways. :)

   So very sorry to hear about your son's accident, WR. I will keep you, your son & family in my thoughts and prayers - hoping he makes a 100% full speedy recovery.

   Poor kid! That's the one thing about being a parent.. always something happening with them!
   Actually I need Acronis again! Things crashed about a month ago, my files are here but have had to install the actual programs again! Arggh!

   Thanks Inas and Copmom. Yeah. I always say be careful when he leaves for sghool. The worst thing was waiting nearly six hours to find out what exactly had happened. My wife went to pick him up on the way to taking my daughter to the drop off point for he school trip. She's away for three days. She then took Cal to the A&e department. She hadn't taken her purse so had no money to phone me and i didn't have a clue where she'd actually taken him.

   Hr's okay. Still in a lot of pain. Apart from the broken thumb the rest is mainly superficial. The damage to his face looks bad, but i'm sure it will repair quickly.

   With respect to Acronis check Bits du Jour the offer may have been extended a day as it was their main offer. It was 75% off yesterday. Brilliant deal.

   Copmon you've got another 14+ hours - they did repeat the deal. I got this version back in December when it was on a deal.

   Sympathies on your son, WR. NOT making light of his injuries at all, as you said, "i'm sure it will repair quickly". As parents we sometimes forget their resiliency, as it's our job to protect them.

   For those that missed the Paragon GOTD, maybe check out their free version of 12? Smaller download too.

   To be honest, I don't know why I bothered as I already have the latest version of Acronis which I think is a better product.

   Being totally honest [agnostic], I've never seen a lot of difference in the ultimate results, creating/restoring drive/partition images, whether you're talking about Norton Ghost, Acronis, Paragon, EASEUS etc. Acronis has been faster run from a boot CD, but as Paragon's gotten better in that respect, not sure how true that is today. I've also had several problems with software conflicting with Acronis drivers. EASEUS adds too many files to the system folder for my liking, but I seriously doubt too many other people worry about that sort of thing. My favorite things re: Paragon apps are their virtualization tech but mostly the ability to run most all of them portably -- I like being able to boot to a WinPE-type Windows, or work on another PC/laptop, or work with a VM without having to install the software.

   You may be entirely right OTOH when it comes to backup apps that run in the background -- while I've tried Paragon's versions I've never cared for that sort of app & have never tried it with Acronis.
