   I would like to ask the developers of Giveaway of the Day, speaking
   specifically of the Game site, to comment on the comments left by
   individuals in regards to DoubleGames. Though the company does
   receive "thumbs up" on all of their games, it appears that they get
   more "thumbs down." Along with this, there seems to be an abundant
   number of posts within the comment section for there to be less to no
   more games from DoubleGames because of either poor quality or even at
   times inappropriate content. I appreciate everything about the site
   and all of the work that goes into it. I'm not trying to be a whiner.
   I'm just trying to understand the process involved here as far as 1.)
   to what extent does poster's comments affect which game companies are
   featured or not, and 2.) what the project team's response would be to
   the seemingly overwhelming negative responses to DoubleGames.
   DoubleGames seems to be a negative investment/partnership for this
   site. If the Project Team disagrees with that I would just like to
   understand why. I know you don't owe me an answer, and I'll still
   come back if you don't give me one. But the comment section and
   forums are here - so I'm assuming it's ok to ask.

   Again - I appreciate all of the work that goes into this site, as I'm
   sure I really have no idea the extent of hardwork that does really go
   in to it. I will always come to this site. Being such a person I'm
   just asking my above questions and seeking input as one who does want
   to be loyal to the site and continue to promote it.

   Considering that they moderate each comment that appears on the games site, I'm sure they are aware of what has been said.

   I personally believe, people are always more willing to complain or criticise, than to praise or thank their efforts. As they say, "You can do a hundred good things and nobody will remember. If you do one thing wrong, nobody will forget".

   As with the screensavers on the Apps site, so many people complain about being offered free screensavers. Then today an app for doing inventory on a network and people complain because they have no use for it as they only have 3 or fewer pcs.

   On the games site people complained when there were several arkanoid clones. Then it was 3 in a row. Then the games were all for little kids and they wanted some grown up games. So there were some card games, except some had topless lady cartoon card backs - and people said "What about the kids - this is offensive".

   Some people wanted shooters and role playing games - so they put up Alien Shooter and people complained that it was too violent.

   Can you see a pattern forming here?

   No matter what, you will get a vocal bunch of users who will complain about the free games. Some say their complaints are to "help the site" and developers actually appreciate their complaints. There is a big difference between complaints for complaints sake and constructive criticism (and making suggestions on how things can be improved).

   But I don't select the games that are offered, I just download and play them. (And I rather spend my time here in the forums, than trawling through the complaints...err... comments section).

   Bubby,

   I appreciate your comments and I completely agree with your assessment in the "pattern" of complainers. I work in an education/church environment, so I can totally relate to the "you can't please everyone" idea. From my observations it seems though that the DoubleGames issue goes beyond this idea. Their games are spread out over a couple months, as well as being somewhat different in concept. Within this they consistently are criticized harshly - and not simply because of the games themselves but because of the negative idea of being associated with DoubleGames. It appears, from my perspective I know, that being are concerned with the reputation of GGOTD if they continue to offer DoubleGames.

   Another thing that should be mentioned is that it's hard to find 365 games a year to give away for free. That's a lot of games, and there aren't really too many game developers out there. It's not like the site has a wide choice in what games to offer, they're limited to what developers (like me) want to give away.

   That said, I agree that the games of Double Games go way beyond this. Those games use copyrighted music without permission, so they aren't even technically *legal*. They're really low quality.
