Hello ambitiousajit
Welcome to the giveaway forums. I am one of your friendly admin's, here to help if and when I can. There is no real art to posting a comment here. We use these forums mainly to comment on previous giveaways and to suggest possible new giveaways. We also give details of free or on offer software both applications and games that we find while surfing the net (though we first make sure that what we are posting is from a safe and legal site). Please note that any links to sites that allow you to download software for free that isn't legal will be deleted and could lead to a ban from the site.
If you have a problem with your computer, running an application or even something funny to say or anything else that you think may interest the community post it in the appropriate section of the forums, for example, if you want to post something about a game post it in the Games discussion forum, or if you've seen a piece of software or a game on offer somewhere post it in the 'Good Software we need to know about' section. (actually if it's a game post it in the Game discussion forum, lol). You can see the different forum categories at the bottom of the front page of the forums.
If there's something you are not sure about and you want to ask a specific question of one of the administrators (me, or BuBBy) or one of the moderators (usually Graylox) you can send a private message PM (though this is not always possible as our in boxes may be full). You can see who the moderators are because they will have a little sign under their name saying Moderator. Mine was changed to Game Guru when I started posting a lot about games, though technically I'm also an administrator on the forums and a moderator on the Game comments section of the Game giveaway which you will see each weekend.
Please ask any questions if you are still not sure what you need to do. I will happily answer. :)
You will find useful information about the forums and rules in the Stickies section on the front page via the FAQ's thread, which you can read HERE and the Rules which you can read HERE.

Hi ambitiousajit,
Welcome to the forums. The best thing for you to do is read through comment threads as you come across them. If you choose to add something to a thread make sure it is on-topic (otherwise you run the risk of hijacking the thread and having your comment removed), be courteous and polite. Flaming or attacking another member is not allowed and will result in your comment being removed as will swearing or language generally considered to be offensive.
If you choose to start a new topic you should use the search function to make sure your topic doesn't already exist. Be sure to post in the correct sub-forum, i.e. don't put social questions in a technical forum. Don't post links to sites that could be considered offensive. Don't hot-link pictures, i.e. don't post links to pictures on websites not offering photo sharing. Be sure to read through the FAQ's and stickies for further do's and don'ts, etc. Also make sure the title of your new topic accurately reflects the contents of your topic, i.e. one titled "Help" is less likely to be looked at by the appropriate people than one titled Help with activation of Software.
Finally be sure to have some fun. A lightly toned topic tends to garner more reads and replies than does a heavy sounding one.

Ooooh, wouldn't it be wonderful when all members would not only read but even take this advice to heart ...
(don't listen to me, this is only a sigh of the stressed adminlox)

That's because this is a Nice forum, with Nice people, & Very Nice mods. :)
Like the tabloids WR is likely familiar with [being in the UK, Not because he reads them all :) ], many forums, blogs etc. have found that controversy sells. Idiot posts draw both visitor referrals & comments/replies because readers are so motivated to more or less call the idiot, an idiot. I know myself, I have to watch out I don't become so incensed by some really stupid post or blog that I feel I *Have* to comment -- I could too easily waste what energy I have available that way.
(don't listen to me, this is only a sigh of the stressed adminlox)
I think maybe the biggest sacrifice you kind mods/admins make is that you can't just run away & hide. You can't say: "I've had enough" & **POOF** you're gone. People who will take on that responsibility are rare -- granted it's easier than raising kids, who you're stuck with forever :), but you don't get the personal benefits either, & of course you can't threaten to swat anyone. :)
_______And lest it appear that I've stolen this thread, IMO knowing the thankless roles of admins & mods helps -- a LOT -- when/if you're learning your way around forums & such... It's easy to feel picked on, singled out when a post's deleted, a thread's locked etc., but even if you assume they're perfect, mods/admins do have limited time & unlimited stress.
Also, intentionally controversial [i.e. stupid] stuff may not just appear, but seem condoned or endorsed. My take is it may be there to suck you in, or the author is stupid enough your comments/reply wouldn't matter, it's something the mods/admins haven't gotten to yet, or they feel it falls under Free Speech rules/allowances. Use your own best judgement, remembering that if you get upset, you're the one who will suffer the physical & psychological effects along with the stress that comes from getting angry. Remember too that by definition you're not likely going to change an idiot's mind. :)
