I'm running Windows XP Pro. SP3 and all the games I have been down loading lately are pixelated to the point that I can't even read the text on the screen & sometimes I can't find the exit button. Often I end up having to hit the escape key to exit the games. I also have a laptop running Windows 7 Home Edition & have the same problem but I just have to right click & choose the test the compatability button, which tells me to run the program in Win XP SP2 mode & the programs work. I can't get a Windows XP SP2 mode on my desktop running XP SP3. How can I get the games to run on my XP desktop? I'm getting tired of down loading game after game only to find I can't play them. You would think that the programers would design the games to run on the latest version of XP. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi skooterfd,
If this is happeneing with every game then it sounds like your graphics card may be damaged. A build up of dust around the fans can casue the fans to slow downa nd even stop, hich is extremelydangerous as the graphs chip can then ovrheat and burn out.
I got a similar problem on one of my older computers that was only used as a secondary computer. I neglected to clean the indides regularily and both graphics cards consequently burnt out due to a massive build up of dust. Its amazing how fast dust does build up .
Check the back of your computer and see if theres two sockets for your monitor. One (or more) from your graphics card, plus another from your motherboard. To test whether it could be a failed graphics chip you need to disconnect it from your computer and use the onboard (motherboard) graphics chip. These chips come as standard on most motherboards (apart from the more expensive gamers boards). If you do then you need to remove the graphics card then connect your monitor to the motherboard socket. The motherboard socket is automatically turned off when a graphics card is inserted into the motherboard so you have to physically removed it first. (That said you may be able to swap between the chips via bios, but that is probably not an option).
Please let me now if you need more information. you can search google and you tube for walkthroughs and videos on how to do this. :)
