   Hi I like your website with the free software downloads. The one thing that bothers me say if I downloaded one of the software programs and then activated it. Then in two or three months my computer is need to be rebooted. See I save all software on my external hardrive. My point being in three months time after a reboot of my computer and I want to install the free software you will it still work?

   I reboot my PC sometimes twice or three times a day. Thankfully my software still works ok.
   If you can make a windows desktop last for three months without a reboot, you are doing very well indeed.

   But I think you mean a "reinstall" or "reformat"

   You need to be aware that the software can only be installed during the giveaway period. There are a number of other ways to backup and restore the programs depending on your level of expertise, but the obvious intent as to why these programs are offered in the first place, is so users will register them, and receive updates, support and the ability to install and reinstall after a system rebuild.

   If it is "going to suck" not having your favorite free program after a system reinstall - perhaps that is a sign the software might even be worth registering.

   (Everyone likes to get free stuff, but if people don't support the developers who give us free stuff that is actually good, then there is a chance there will be less of the good stuff in the future).

   Your closest solution is find the original page here on GOTD where you downloaded the program from and read the comments. Most of the times people give their opinions on alternate solutions and many are freewares.

   Some of the software (maybe one tenth?) that becomes available on GotD is registered by files and not by registry entries, so by keeping your software on a removeable drive, you might be able to still use those titles after reinstalling Windows.

   Anyway, if you need to reinstall Windows every few months, I'd suggest making friends with a techie and getting advice from them on how to keep your system stable enough not to have to reinstall so often!

   QFT. If you needed/used the software that much, it's worth buying.

   The last time I reformatted one of my 4 computers was back in 2001. And that was to upgrade an OS. :)
