There's a guy working with/for Neowin, Razvan Mihai Asmanow Serea, who always puts up a notice on Neowin when the final, release version of Firefox is put up for download. In the past he's written that the new versions of Firefox go up, then it takes a few days for them to propagate it to all the servers, get things set up for auto-update etc.
Personally, & this is just me, I prefer to update software on *my* terms, when it's convenient & when I'm thinking about it, rather than having an app like Firefox pop up a notice, asking to update when I'm doing something else. When that happens I either forget to update later, or forget that I've allowed Firefox to download but not apply the update -- I don't know how it does it, but Firefox ALWAYS manages to time the update notice to show up when I've got 10 or more tabs open in the middle of something. :)
fire fox 11.0, but it is in beta phase
It's listed as "Mozilla Firefox 11.0 Final" & the About box simply says "11". A lot of [mostly open source] software is available at various beta builds -- VLC for example has nightly versions -- & the final, release versions are often posted in the same place... you'll see Beta n1, Beta n2, maybe a RC [Release Candidate] or three, & then the final build. That said, I'm lazy so I've never followed the Firefox betas, & just download when Razvan posts the links.

Honestly, is there even a slight chance that you don't have a bunch of open tabs?
When I start Firefox there are at least 7 tabs open and logged in. Those tabs are pinned.
Those 7 are the minimum I "need", used to have some more and several Groups - until I noticed, that Firefox starts a lot faster without all the baggage.
And after I cleaned (emptied) the bookmarks folder FF is not only faster but even more stable.graylox

Mozilla have delayed the official release of v11 for a couple of days according to this: delayed release and amongst the reasons is a possible security vulnerability, so installing it before the official release might be a touch premature.

Actually the reason I started using Firefox years ago was I can set it to delete everything when it closes. And I usually close it between tasks. I may have up to 30 or 40 tabs open at times, but rarely the same ones or pages [it really gets amusing when I load FFox up & then, in an effort to keep some sort of (ahem) sanity, open a bunch more in ie9]. OTOH the average for me is 1 - 3 at a time.

Thanks for the heads up... this time it happened before they propagated it through auto update, last time it was a few days after. Otherwise, probably just a matter of semantics, to me the words "official release" imply that there was something unofficial about the Neowin announcement & links, as if it was a leak or pre-release. That wasn't/isn't the case. I've yet to see a difference in the setup files whether I get them when they 1st pop up on Neowin or later when the Firefox website advertises they're available. When you jump on a new release of any browser you take advantage of improvements &/or fixes &/or do away with a security vulnerability sooner rather than later -- waiting a bit you're safer in case the developers missed anything, but you also wait on those improvements, fixes, & live with any vulnerabilities.
IMHO there's nothing at all wrong with either approach. :) My wife works retail, & they always have everything in place before the sales ads take effect, before they put the big sale signs up. Big software companies do the same -- Microsoft had the latest win8 preview ready before they made the download pages/links live, just like the updates that'll go live today. The only difference is that the Firefox folks don't wall off their final releases before they put up the ads. :)

That release delay turned out to be very short-lived (if it happened at all). Maybe I shouldn't have trusted someone who calls himself El Guru.

http://www.v3.co.uk/v3-uk/news/2159386/mozilla-pushes-firefox-plans-windows-version
Mozilla has pushed out version 11 of its Firefox browser, extending its Firefox Sync capabilities to include add-ons, and adding new developer tools such as a style editor and WebGL visualisation tool.
Meanwhile, it has also emerged that Mozilla plans a Windows 8 version of Firefox, but that restrictions around the new Metro-style user environment are causing issues.
Meanwhile, the new Page Inspector 3D View is a visual layout tool claimed to be unique to Firefox. Nicknamed ‘Tilt' this WebGL-based feature provides a 3D visualisation that is said to highlight the structure of a page better than a flat view.
Mozilla, along with Google and its Chrome browser, is thus concerned that they will not be able to compete with IE10 on Windows 8 because of developer restrictions that Microsoft is apparently able to sidestep for IE10.
In addition, while desktop apps can be downloaded in the conventional manner, Metro-style apps will only be available through the Windows store, which is controlled by Microsoft.
