Wanted to point this out as a few folks have or know someone who has problems with pain. The article's called "The Forgetting Pill...", at the moment it's the 1st thing you see at wired.com, & the part about how it might be helpful for pain is on the last page, #5, para. #4.
An already shortened story as brief or quick as I can make it... Our brains & nerve cells work because of chemicals. Stored memories [according to the article & the research it's based on] are stored all over again whenever we recall them -- in a way like overwriting a file on our PC/laptop. By interfering with the chemicals necessary for that over-writing, specific, individual memories can be [at least partly] erased. Sensory nerves can hold memories too, e.g. of pain resulting from an injury. Talking about this potential treatment, a researchers says: โIt might be the only way to treat neuropathic pain.โ
