   I've had Facebook Timeline since it was in development stages and can assure you that in the beginning it will be optional for all users. But to keep consistency throughout Facebook everyone will be automatically migrated to the new format in the near future.

   I haven't tried this add-on for Firefox, but it might help a bit. See:
   https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/user-agent-switcher/

   1- Download the add-on and install it in Firefox.
   2- Reboot Firefox and navigate to the URL of your choice.
   3- From the browser's menu bar, click TOOLS and go DEFAULT USER AGENT -> INTERNET EXPLORER -> INTERNET EXPLORER 8.
   4- Refresh the page and resume browsing.
   5- To revert to normal mode, re-select DEFAULT USER AGENT.

   Refreshing the webpage in Firefox is sufficient to see potential changes.

   (In theory, activation of the add-on simulates an incompatibility between the browser version and the website; possibly disabling the latest features in Web technology.)
