Giveaway of the Day Forums

   There have been many discussions over the years related to voting and how various users feel the system could be improved.

   Rather than Hijacking the daily giveaway discussion into a debate about voting and the design of the webpage, a discussion on the mechanics of voting and the semantics on what a thumbs up or down should indicate can be done here (in a central area).

   As each days giveaway comment page remains visible (by default) for only 24 hours - it makes no sense for people to make suggestions that will be scattered across multiple giveaways - and reposting each day the same comments to recap what was said on previous days will only start to annoy everyone.

   For starters here are three of the older topics - but I'm sure there are many more buried in the forums (or within topics) - which only illustrates why it makes sense to keep this discussion together.

   This may not be the place for this comment, but I would suggest that since the likes and dislikes seem to be related to the type of offering, and not the quality of the software, that the likes and dislikes only be allowed as part of the installation process, when the What Next? screen comes up, or tied in to suggestions. Something more than just looking at the title and desctiption.

   I have been reading comments about the merits of the GOTD rating system. However, I don't know what that system is. Now that I have read some of these comments, I think that I have been relying on the software and "usefulness" comments inappropriately. Exactly how does the rating system work?

   P.S. If that information is alreay posted somewhere, I couldn't find it. I make this comment because someone else suggested a better method of searching. (-:

   I really appreciate the giveaways here. Not a fan of each and every one, but I take care not to post negative comments about software that does not interest me. It's well worth a visit to the page for the gems that show up now and then.

   I'm sure it's a good bit of work to keep up with the site. There are however a couple of features that I've seen elsewhere that I might suggest for future enhancements.

   The positive and negative vote system is great, but I would love it if the recipients of positive votes were voted up, and the negative vote recipients were voted down or "buried" somewhat like the Digg website.

   I would also love to see a nested comment system, with an option to subscribe to replies. This is basically the native Wordpress sort of system. Or like this forum does.
