Does anyone know of any free process blocker software? I am looking for a software that will (based on a list I create) block/prevent the processes from running. Of course the software program will probably run in the background monitoring the process list and when it detects a blacklisted process it would immediately kill it.

You may have looked at this already--but if not, would WinPatrol be of any use to you?

The Free Version of DiamondCS ProcessGuard will do what you want (and more)
edit: you will need to google for "ProcessGuard" - the official site has shut down - and it looks like future development on this tool will now cease. (21.nov.2008)

Boy this is an old thread...
Yes, at this point in time I could use one, as the processes on my Laptop are running around 82...would like to get it down to around 60!
BuBBY: If you see this, is there another link for that software...says something about page suspended when I clicked on it.
rsergio: I clicked your link and I would like to no more before I download something...

Robert
Thanks for the reply! Right now I am trying maz's suggestion with WinPatrol...right now I have got the processes on the laptop down from 82 to 65! Still looking at the program, it doesn't seem to detect all the processes in Task Manager. They are trying to push the paid version of WinPatrol Plus...but for $29.95 it would have to be a 3 user license for me, lol!
I'm going to try it on the Desktop which has only 68 processes running at the moment and see if I can get those down a bit too.
The one thing about WinPatrol is it shows up in Task Manager under processes, the very thing I'm trying to avoid...ROFLMAO
Haven't seen you around in awhile, of course I only usually show up on the weekends for the games, glad to see you are still here!!!
Thanks and take care....SukiPosted 16 years ago # -

A lot of processes are not needed by a home user.
If you download and install SiSoftware Sandra Lite (freeware) and run it's diagnostics part it will tell you which ones are safe to turn off, without compromising your system.
Its available with 4 mirrors from http://majorgeeks.com/SiSoftware_Sandra_Lite_d4664.html

Sukibabe,
Just saw this (old old) thread and your requirement for a program that terminates any processes that matches an entry from a user supplied list, can be met (I believe) by the program at
http://www.processblocker.com/ (OK, so they won no awards for a creative domain name, but at least you won't forget it easily).
They have code for both x32 and x64 code. It is still in Beta, and will probably eventually become a commercial tool (according to their roadmap)
Give it a try.

BuBBy,
Thanks for that cool link.Posted 16 years ago # -

Thanks from the ...lox too.
Not a one-click-tool; I have to do something more - and will perhaps learn something more about my puter.
A beta-version is for me like a challenge - I love challenges. ;)

Please have a look at topic 18 of the Road-Map :
This should move the project from simple application to a service helping administrators to fight users

Process Lasso
