Are these programs permanent or trials?

The giveaways once activated are not trials, but operate as a full version that does not expire. However they cannot be upgraded to new versions and unless notified otherwise, any attempt to upgrade the programs will cause the software to revert back to a trial version.
The DVD Ripper from yesterday was an exception and the program "expiry" was probably caused by a programming error - and is being offered again on Monday.
Also the software can only be installed while the giveaway is running - if you uninstall or delete the program, it is likely you will be unable to reinstall.

Although the software is still a non-expiring full version.
The ability to upgrade, receive support or reinstall isn't really a limitation of the program but the licensing and deployment method. (The developer obviously has to keep something as an incentive to offer people who decide to pay for the software).
If people could upgrade and reinstall giveaways when they wanted - why would people decide to pay for and register the software?
