   For over a year, I downloaded and installed programs without any problems.

   About 2 or so years ago, we quit using Netzero as our dial up service. That is when problems started ...

   Twice since then, I managed to do something to my computer and got once a game and once a program to install ...

   Then my computer crashed Feb 10 and I lost ALL of my give away programs. I hoped the problem would resolve itself ... but it didn't.

   I just quit trying. My husband has a similar set up and can download and install without any problem, and there are 2 laptops that do so as well.

   My computer is a fully upgraded Win XP, sp3. I run AVG free.

   I would really like to figure this out - I've deleted cookies, emptied caches, used all 3 browsers. I've tried turning off the windows firewall and AVG ... nothing is working. I've just spent nearly 2 hours reading forum entries and trying everything I can figure out how to do.

   Any new ideas?

   I kept reading ... and tripped on a comment about downloading with IE ....

   I usually download with Free Download Manager.

   So I tried it with IE instead and was happily surprised when it worked!

   I do not know why it made a difference ... as I've used FDM far longer than I knew about GGOTD. But I am very glad it made a difference!

   Now that you know that it is possible to download with IE, please try it again with FDM, without doing any changes to IE.

   It is not important how you download the giveaways, the problem occurs when you activate/register the programmes.
   I think your IE was set to "offline" before. IE has to be "online" when activating a giveaway, no matter with what browser you are normally working, and you may not use a proxy. When IE is online, you may use any other browser.

   I'm glad this post sticks around ... I find myself "rediscovering" this great advice at least every 12 - 18 months. At least THIS time .. I remembered it existed! Thanks everyone who keeps up with these boards and keeps them all running!
