Really like Paragon apps, I use their Partition Mgr. mostly to size partitions, occasionally to create/delete them. I use their backup apps much more often for many jobs where you'd think of partitioning software first -- restoring a backup to empty space creates the partition for me, which can then be resized using a partition app if needed. You should backup anyway, especially if you want to move files, e.g. to the end of a partition [making room at the beginning], or from the 2nd partition to the beginning of a merged partition. Rather than trying to move files, which can take longer & possibly get errors, I tend to just restore backups wherever I need them. With a bit of creativity there's all sorts of uses where Paragon's apps come in extremely handy. Using Win7 with it's VHD [Virtual Hard Drive/Disk] support can help a lot too if/when you want to virtualize a working Windows installation & apps -- alternatively VirtualBox can help out in a pinch.
For most of us the system partition [usually C:\] has a lot of free space, & you don't want that with VMs [Virtual Machines]. A Paragon backup only stores data [as default], but it records how big the partition is, & there's extra work/time involved if you restore that partition backup to a smaller partition -- AFAIK EASEUS is the same way. One way to deal with it is shrink the system partition 1st, before backup or copy, another is to restore to an expanding VHD as-is, which again just records the final size, doesn't actually fill that empty space with anything. Then reduce the partition for that VHD, and copy or backup that smaller partition & use the results for your VM. Before you do however, I like to rename folders for stuff like AV software, & or graphics or other hardware related apps -- you can name them back & get on with uninstall after you get your VM up & running, which is much easier than dealing with it at first. If you don't have one of the Paragon apps that does virtualization already, you might want to Google on Paragon Go Virtual while you can still find/download it.
If/when you're working with Windows files, you can only work with copies of those files that are being used by Windows -- you can't move or delete them unless you shut Windows down. To perform those sorts of tasks the app you're using asks to re-boot, & does its job before Windows starts up. That &/or *nix boot discs/USB devices can be a bit slow. Booting into a mini-Windows instead, things are most always faster & easier. Microsoft has what they call a WinPE environment, & for win7 you can include all sorts of stuff in it [i.e. on the disc], but it's not universal & a bit of a PITA to create. That's where the work & projects at reboot.pro & 911CD.net come in -- you can download everything you need with the exception of a Windows install disc/ISO, & in 10-30 minutes have a bootable CD/USB stick that works like WinPE, but better, e.g. often with more apps & universal driver setups that will work on more hardware. Used with one of these boot discs or USB sticks, Paragon apps are usually ideal -- with minimal work they'll work portably without the drivers, which you don't need because the disk/partition you'll work with isn't in use. Generally to make a Paragon app portable just make sure msvcp60.dll, msvcrt.dll, prgiso.dll, & qtp-mt334.dll are in the program's folder next to the Launcher.exe you'll double click to start the app -- I have had just one or two need an additional file or couple of files if used with *some* boot discs but it wasn't a bit deal to track them down per the error message. Set the boot disc ISO you create to boot 1st in a VirtualBox VM [you don't even need an OS installed to that VM], & you can test everything pretty easily. & remember, there's a portable VirtualBox starter so you don't even need to install VirtualBox.
Do note that Paragon changed their backup formats with version 11, & that different versions of their rescue CDs work on different Windows hardware. Don't backup using today's Partition Mgr. GOTD & expect to restore that backup using Paragon Backup 9 or 10 -- don't get rid of old rescue discs if you might ever have to use whatever Paragon app on an older system.

Running Late -- Sorry -- if it helps anyone a few of the answers/comments posted on the regular GOTD page didn't show up...
--------#5: "Can i copy a small, full harddisk to a bigger, all inc, so i can throw the old one away ??? I only have place for one disk."
That's exactly what the Migration feature is for.

#16: "which software is better or more secure: Paragon or EaseUs or free alternatives?"
#24: "I downloaded and installed EASEUS Partition Master Professional Edition 9.0 few weeks back from giveawayoftheday. Can anyone please compare today’s give away with EASEUS."
I can use Wordperfect or Word to create docs -- same purpose, different apps & features. EASEUS & Paragon partition apps share the same purpose -- you won't see a big difference between a partition created with either. Paragon has more features & can work portably, plus their backup software is IMHO better, but there are times I've used EASEUS Partition Master to for example copy a partition & nothing else, & it worked fine. Free alternatives usually mean GParted on a *nix LiveCD [Wikipedia http://goo.gl/ohJUQ ]. It works too, but you have to burn the ISO to disc & boot from it -- no Windows.

#10: "“Automatic partition alignment during partitioning/copy operations to optimize performance of the hard disk” – Does this mean it supports partition alignment for SSD’s?"#25: "it does not expressly say that it suppports SSD page alignment. Under Alignment, it speaks of LBA only."
The full features page at the Paragon site says SSD supported & automatic partition alignment.

#28: "Starting the main programm it says in “About”: Paragon Partition Manager™, version 10.0.17.13146 (25.03.11) Personal Special Edition. I am a little bit confused now!"
Files are dated 8/29/11. Not fool proof, but when you can't be confident comparing version numbers...

#29: "Is this compatible with Restore-IT 7 offered a while back here? or does it set up its own boot sector. "
Paragon Partition Mgr. is just a regular app -- as long as you don't install the Boot Mgr. from inside the app it won't touch that portion of the drive. If you want to copy/migrate that drive however you might find it doesn't see the Restore-IT stuff -- might try setting all sectors in the options in that case.

#34: "Does this product include the ability to create a virtual machine (P2V copy)?"
No... Google on Paragon Go Virtual -- couldn't find it on their site, but this free app was available & links worked to download from sites like MajorGeeks.

#39: "Went to install it, the install jumped from asking which directory to saying it was finished in the very next step. Tried the default path, same result. No finished install anywhere on my pc, no email from paragon with reg key, nothing. What gives?"
#42: "when I choose to install, it installs to C:\ and nothing else. "
I unzipped the GOTD download to a new folder, then ran the GOTD Setup.exe -> that verifies the giveaway period, then open a WinRAR self extractor -> clicking the Browse button I select the current, new folder -> running the self extracting file gives me PartitionManager.msi . Filling in the data at http://www.paragon-software.com/registration/pm11pers-se.html [thanks graylox] I get/save the email from Paragon to that same new folder. Deleting the original zip file & Setup.exe I can now save that folder somewhere like on a disc for whenever I want to (re)install. Running [double clicking] that msi file installs the program.

#49: "V9.5 Pro allows you to change the cluster size on a logical drive & none of these other free Paragon programs do so. "
Check the Help sections for pictures etc.... Selecting the advanced options when available & clicking the More options arrows when available you can access more options. I think you're right that SE versions don't have as many options, but Help for example does show cluster options when creating new.

Thanks for all the info you've posted Mike. We should set up a seperate thread for all these tech questions. It would then be a much more useful resource for users to dip into. :)
Edit:
Although we already have several different categories I thought the idea was important enough to at least start a new category related to Technical questions. Hopefully this will be used in conjunction with giveaways.

Whatever you or anyone thinks will work best...
I'm running WAY behind today. Wasn't expecting something nice since this is effectively Monday here -- that's not being US-centric, but if I was running a promo I'd look out for UK holidays & adjust for them too. :-) Anyway, didn't/don't know if there's any sort of interest, if the people asking will check the forum or not, if anyone else has the same or similar questions?

I wonder why my comments doesn't show up - even when logged in ?
This was my suggestion to Paragon:A new version is not always a better version !
Don't force me to uninstall my present version BEFORE I had the opportunity to evaluate the your newest version, please !
I mean: do you skip your old car before you have tested a new one ?
