Millenniata, a new optical disc company, has designed an optical disc that the company said will last virtually forever.
Millenniata will price the discs at about $3 apiece.

If this DVD product actually makes it to market, it would solve many of the problems associated with data archiving.
A way to erase such data will also be needed.

I'll 2nd that.
I'd also think this was good more for durability in shorter term use. Unless it really takes off so all drives are calibrated to read/write to it, there's no expectation or assurance you'd be able to find/use a compatible drive just in the near future. And look at zip disks, the larger floppies, video discs, VHS tapes, 8-tracks, & so on -- even if all new DVD drives were calibrated to use these new discs, sooner or later DVDs are going to go away too I'd imagine.
