I’m really not sure about this one Idunno, You can see that there are potential extras downloaded. Even when I unchecked these my Avir detected a conduit toolbar and a 4 entries of Winload –prxtbWinI.dll that tried to install to my start up and Home Guard detected my home page was changed. I also noted the following in my avir start up manager:
Mein Gutscheincode Finder zeigt automatisch Shopping-Gutscheine an mit denen Sie beim Online-Einkauf sparen können.
Translated using googles translator:
My voucher code finder will automatically shopping vouchers to help you save money when shopping online.
I captured the following image showing the download page. You need to uncheck the boxes. They say the following (translated using google)
1) … Redaktionell geprüfter Download Ashampoo ® Photo Commander 8.0 (empfohlen)
in Kombination mit der kostenlosen Browsererweiterung für Downloader. Deaktivieren Sie alternativ das Kontrollkästchen für einen Download ohne unsere Browsererweiterung.
Translated:
Editorial tested Ashampoo ® Photo Commander 8.0 (recommended)
In combination with the free browser extension for downloaders. Alternatively you can disable the check box for a download without our browser extension.
2) … Erweiterte Suche als Standardsuchmaschine hinzufügen
Translated:
To add Advanced Search as default search engine
3) … Profi Suche als Startseite optional im Browser hinzufügen
Translated:
Add Advanced Search Home as an option in the browser
Also, please note:
When you start the program set up you also need to uncheck yet more boxes. This one is in english. It wants to install MyAshampoo toolbar, Set the MyAshampoo websearch as homepage and set ashampoo web search as your default search engine. These can be unchecked at installation, but are easily forgotten, especially if you whizz through the instal procedures. It doesn't give you the option of not installing a quick launch if you want a shortcut as well. you either have both or none. Select the latter then find the installed program to create your own shortcut if you don't want a quick launch icon. :)
Check the image out below:
Yep, my Kaspersky didn't want to install the downloaded software at all.
Formerly I downloaded from Ashampoo directly, and had never had problems. It seems all their free software (at least) is only downloadable from other download sites (downloadmix.de; winload.de).
Well, I didn't invest too much time for research now, however I would advise to be cautious.
Ashampoo gave always away the older versions of their software, and gave rebate for the upgrade, but I doubt, that I will follow on such a hurdle race as WR described here.

Thanks Whiterabbit and Graylox. :)
In my case, this is how the download went...
My anti-virus did not trigger off an alarm when I installed the program on Windows XP. I currently have Microsoft Security Essentials, PrevX for Facebook and Immunet (cloud AV) active at all times.
I declined the offer for installing the toolbar by unchecking the boxes, which seemed to have worked for me. My browser is normally set to open on a 'blank page' and I have not seen an indication that my homepage had changed without my permission. When I'm not in a hurry, I use Firefox add-ons, which IMO help in blocking 'unwanted-ware'. (I'm sure you're familiar with the likes of 'NoScript' ; 'Redirect Remover' ; 'HTTPS-Everywhere' ; 'BitDefender QuickScan' ; 'BrowserProtect' ; 'Disconnect' and their ilk) :).
I'd posted the link because I anticipated that it would be of interest to forum members . I'm a long-time user of Ashampoo products (since Windows 98) and can say, from my personal experience, that their products are quite safe.
At any rate, I might have spoken too soon; so "just you be careful out there"!
You are right, Idunno, Ashampoo was always reliable and had usable programmes, I too have several of their tools.
As I wrote, I wasn't in the mood today to research why Kaspersky sent one warning after the next. Maybe I'll take some more time on this tomorrow. Nevertheless, I don't like all these hurdles, regardless of all security tools I have installed.

Is this any better than Picassa from Google?
I think I neglected to uncheck the first box in the initial download section, which is why I got all of the warnings. I was able to block and delete all of the toolbars etc via my security. I should have spent more time translating first instead of relying on my German which I've not used since 1978 (after living near Krefeld for three years) apart from a short stay in Berlin several years ago.
Thank you for the feedback, everyone! :)
Hi Rta53,
Choosing between programs is often a subjective matter. My guess is that Picasa (14 Mb) is convenient for PCs connected to the Internet. If you have a PC that's offline, then Photo Commander is a useful self-contained application (but it's not freeware).
Ashampoo Site Offers 100% Free Downloads for its former/legacy previous program versions, for those interested (download link is below):
Thanks Inas

Hi Hotdoge,
I translated the text you quoted with the Google Translator ( http://translate.google.com/ ):
Alternatively you can disable the check box(es) for a download without our browser extension.
If you want to remove / disable the toolbar, maybe one of these methods will work:
1. Right-click on the toolbar and deselect it from the list.
2. Possibly, the toolbar's name is displayed in a language other than English or carries the name of the Website. From the Firefox menu, go to 'Tools' -> 'Add-ons'. Search for the toolbar's name and click 'remove'.
3. Run Windows' built-in Uninstaller to search for the toolbar and remove it.
Thanks Idunnobutiwastold for that may be next time I try Google Translator
