   As with a lot of these online games Heroes of Newerth has just been converted to freeware (on the 29th July).

   In Heroes of Newerth, two teams of up to five players each take on the role of special Hero units. With the assistance of AI-controlled armies, each team sets out with the sole objective of destroying the other team's base. As a match progresses, players can earn experience and gold which can be used to upgrade skills or purchase items to make their character more powerful. The team-oriented design of HoN coupled with unprecedented in-game Voice-Over-IP controls and Clan Support allow for an incredibly deep, tactical team-based experience. This is now Free-To-Play.

   You can download Heroes of NewerthHERE. If you get a small window popping up asking for a password just close it and the download will start. Failing that you may need to create a Fileplanet account (free), but I didn’t when I downloaded the file. You’ll find Mac and Linux versions available too.

   I know that you posted this 4 days ago, but while 'readying' my new laptop and being excited about having up to date spec.. I was going through all my software from here seeing what I could keep and what I could not. I came across something that I was really thrilled about and played solidly for some time and then stopped and I do not know why. I know, I know..get to the point.

   SAGA MMORTS is now completely free. They just recently ended the free or registered version and it is is all free. I imagine to keep up with the rest of them online. Anyway, even though I have not played for over a year, everything is still there as I left it and ready to go. Now, in the cross over to make it all free their patcher/updater is down until further notice. Though you can manually get the patch and install it or just run from the Saga.exe (I had to install the patch for it to recognize my hardware). I started completely over because I have forgotten everything.

   I thought I would let everyone know about that one too. Figure while I am downloading all my stuff onto my laptop it gives me something to play too. I think my Steam stuff is going to take the longest. I am not sure why their server/sight is so slow to download. Oh well, now you know as well!

   Thanks for the info Gregg. Does that mean all the extras we got are intact as well. Oddly I found my log in details recently and my city names. I created accounts for me and my two children. I bet you still have to pay real cash to buy new armies?

   Yes everything is still intact. You can buy booster packs with gold or credits. So, if you save up enough gold you can buy them this way. I have not tried that yet, but since I started completely over it will be a long time before I have enough gold. I know that sagaunits is still around and they still sell individual cards. I know that the army I have was purchased (besides the ones you start with). I would buy a buck or two a week or what ever extra I would have when I was really playing a lot more. Some of the lower power troops (Dwarf Axemen for example) are like .24 each (I can't imagine they have gotten more expensive since.). Anyway, fun to look in on and fun to play what I have.

   I'd forgotten about the game until youmentioned it above. It's still installed on one of my older computers but I'd cleared it off all of my other computers when i was doing some spring cleaning earlier this year. I'll have to reinstall it and see where I left off. I hope they have updated the environments a little? :)

   It's good to know you can still buy units with gold earned through playing. I remember reading a post in the comments section when the game was last given away a few years ago where a guy had been buying armies via the gold he earned from battles and quests and then was selling them to other players for real cash via a SAGA forum. He said he was making quite a lot of money monthly, lol. I do remember thinking that it was a lot of money. He must have been playing the game virtually all day every day to be able to earn enough gold to buy so many units.

   I know that they have altered a few things in the game... I think... been so long since I played last, but the environment does seem pretty much the same to me. Sorry to tell you that one. I never seemed to be able to get enough gold to buy any serious amount of units. Though I do tend to spend most of what I have on building/upgrading buildings. That has always been a downfall of mine in these kind of games. Too much invested in buildings and upgrades and not enough in actual troops. I am trying to be better though. If you jump on and want to look for me (or anyone I suppose) I am Mynes End right now and playing the Machine faction (Dwarves).
