   Software that creates a virtual CD drive on your system, lets you access the contents of a CD, in the form of an *.ISO image that's been archived on the hard drive. See Figure 1.

   When working with older ('legacy') items, you may have a need for virtual floppy drives.
   I found the following application to work for me. See Figures 2 & 3.

   Many thanks, Idunnobutiwastold! Some of us still use floppies occasionally, and the day will come, if it hasn't already, when one won't be able to add a floppy drive when configuring a new computer!

   that's why I have a usb floppy. my latest mobo has no floppy interface but xp needs a floppy to install sata drivers. no floppy on this laptop either.

   The first screenshot is for an unsupported Microsoft application called 'Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel for Windows XP'. You can read about it in blogs, like here:
   http://blogs.msdn.com/b/charles_sterling/archive/2007/05/14/virtual-cd-rom-control-panel-on-vista.aspx

   On the Internet, there are more user-friendly freeware offerings for creating and mounting ISO images. Here's an example: http://www.isodisk.com/

   If you have a DVD burning suite installed, chances are that this functionality is already built-in.
